Steve Irwin, known as TV's "Crocodile Hunter," is being remembered as "a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest dads on the planet."

Irwin, 44, died after being stung by a stingray while shooting a TV program off Australia's north coast. "He died doing what he loved best," his manager and friend John Stainton says.

This was some crazy news! :3d_050:

I'd only watched him the day before and then was in a cab going to the airport when I heard.

I've also heard he wanted his death shown if it was ever recorded! :3d_047:

It is amazing to me how Steve was always in much more danger than this, and something like that happens. Just goes to show you how the simple things in life are what can end it for ya.

The stingray's barb went into his heart. I wonder if Steve might have had a chance if he hadn't pulled the barb out. His wife does not want his death video made public.

He was doing the only job he knew how to do. His love for dangerous animals & danger itself was like a drug to him. He could'nt get enough & knew one day he would die doing it. He would'nt want it any other way.

There are posts all over the internet showing the video of his last moments. I'm sorry, but I just can't bear to even click on those links. If the family wanted that kept private, it should have stayed that way. Very sad news indeed.
In the words of Hurley, "Whoa, dude, I never saw that one coming!"
